Help Me Fundraise for the Greenway!
by: Geoff Davis
I am gearing up for June 4, because that is the day that I will be Cycling the Greenway alongside over a dozen coworkers! (and many other riders) Each year, Memphis’s Wolf River Convservancy (WRC) organizes and event call Cycle the Greenway, which sees hundreds of participants bike 28, 41, or 56 miles along the Memphis Greenway to raise funds for the Conservancy. The Greenway is an unfinished urban trail that connects communities and provides one more greenspace in an already long list of outdoor destinations in Memphis.
Due to the fact that I haven’t really ridden a bike in half a decade, I elected to bike the 28 mile route. Along with riding, my coworkers and I are tasked with raising funds to support the WRC, and that’s where you come in!
If you’d like to support my ride, you can donate to my personal page; like any fundraising effort, every dollar counts, and it all goes to a great cauase! Each member of my team– the Archer Malmo Peddlers– has a personal goal of $250, and the campaign’s goal is a whopping $55,000! If you would like to donate directly to the campaign, you can do so here.
Here’s a little more information about the Wolf River Conservancy:
Established in 1985, The Wolf River Conservancy is dedicated to the protection and enhancement of the Wolf River and its watershed as a sustainable natural resource. The Wolf River Conservancy has three major focus areas:
- Conservation - We protect over 15,000 acres along the Wolf River watershed
- Education - We help connect people to the Wolf River through education
- Recreation - We help people explore the Wolf River through recreational opportunities
I’m really excited to be a part of this effort to help a vital part of the Memphis ecosystem. Part of my mission this summer is to get more involved in the city as a whole, including seeking out opportunities to support community initiatives and volunteering. This will be my first event, which will inform me of what to expect. (or if I want to commit to biking 28 miles again!)
